  • It's time for a new blog update I've decided. Plenty has been going on the last few months, and thankyou to everyone who has shown their support or shared encouragement. I've received great response from my debut single and video for 'Settle Down' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?..v=yHV04eSGzAA) directed by Guy Franklin & cinematography by Ed Goldner..... Keep an eye out for their next video coming soon for Miami Horror. They're talented guys.

...not to mention receiving a not-so-sneaky mention on Perez Hiltons website, and for those of you asking, there's an exclusive free download of the single up on his blog: http://perezhilton.com/..2010-08-20-watch-listen-like-..ice!

Some of you also may have checked out a clip I did in Sydneys' Blue Mountains for Miami Horror song, 'I Look To You' - a track of their album which has just been released, called, 'Illumination'. http://www...youtube.com/watch?v=..jna2r56EXTg

  • Time for another update on this ol magical beast that is my 'album' - he's getting very close now as I'm amid the touch ups/mixing process with producer M Phazes, who's surprisingly from a hip/hop/r'n'b background so this is a different style of collaboration for me but it's really exciting and breeding great and original work. I am also in the process of getting a video together for the upcoming single, Settle Down - you can hear the latest mix of this song on my page now. But perhaps the most exciting news is that I am about to start gigging around Melbourne with my hybrid of smokin' muso's, this will be my first time gigging with a full band so I'm really looking forward to it, it's a far bigger experience now and I can't wait to share it. We have our first show lined up at Revolver on Feb 27th, this coming saturday!!!! with Me (not me, that's obvious.... the band 'Me' ... www.myspace.com/featureartist) we'll be starting 9pm and it should be a jolly ol time. Come on down. Also coming up is a show with White Birds and Lemons at Grace Darling on March 4th. Hope to see you there. Look out for more songs from the album gradually making their way up on this page. Much love for all the support and encouragement, x
  • HELLO!

So each day I'm closer to getting this record done and I'm very excited to share it with you all. In fact, if you doooo want to hear what I've been doing, I recently put up 3 songs which are finished for the record, Yes!! After much work and love, I can give you a preview to how it's all gonna sound. Take a listen, go on....

The first ones about having babies in Stepford, the second is about a red indian and the last one is about falling in love on the Hollywood Boulevard.

(Did you know the percussion in 'Settle Down' included a vigorously shaken tampon packet? Brilliant timbre if you're into sounds and stuff...... It's said that women are at their funkiest during their menstrual cycle.)

    Yep.

I am now also beginning to put together a live band with the intention to start playing shows around and about very soon. Exciting!

There are also new videos up taken from a show earlier this year with Bertie Blackman (thanks to everyone who came out to the shows, it was an awesome tour!).

    Expect more soon...... xo

  • HEY!!!

Thought I'd better update the ol blog with what's been happening over the last while and what is to come! I am now well into the album with half a dozen tracks close to completion and a few in their very last stages, which you can hear up on Myspace now in fact. These songs are the result of hard work from the last 8 months, I'm feeling great about all the work we've done and I'm excited to share the rest with you which is looking to be not too far away. I'm back in studio for August so will things are moving along and completion date is looking closer each day. Thanks for all the support on what has been circulating the Myspace so far - it's awesome encouragement.

In the meantime, next week I start a national tour with Bertie Blackman & Hungry Kids of Hungary all round Australia, gonna be lots of fun, make sure you come along to a show and hang out! To buy tickets go to this link then click on your region etc....

    Rad.

I'm also in the process of putting together a live band with the plan to play some shows towards the end of the year, so that's exciting also. Look out for the new As Tall As Lions record which comes out next month, August 16th, which I helped out on, it's an awesome record. Will keep on the updates - hope to see people at a show in August - much much love.

  • So with 2008 all finished I'm feeling well on the way with much progress being made and this album is finally starting to find it's feet!

I went into Sing Sing studio's last month to record the first 4 songs of the album with producer and engineer Francois Tetaz (Gotye, Architecture in Helsinki, Lior, Wolf Creek), it was an awesome week. I've had various rad musicians involved so far, including a live brass and strings section, and other friends of mine. Feels so great to be working with people I respect so much and putting together a really unique sounding collection of sounds and instruments. Sing Sing Studios was such an inspiring place to record, with the likes of Nick Cave, Kylie, Mars Volta, Silverchair and Kanye etc having left their mark there, woh. I've put some photo's up in an album for you have a little preview into the whole process. Preview as.

I spent Christmas and New Years back in NZ which is just what I needed creatively and spiritually. It's nice to return home after the absence, you start to see the country through different eyes, rather than just as the familiar, you see it for the place it is - one the most beautiful on earth! Gives a real feeling of refreshment and peace. I've had a more spiritual awarness since my time there also, I feel like we can experience God that bit more when our surroundings reflect a beauty beyond the work of our own hands. Rad.

On a further exciting note, I leave to Los Angeles on the 15th of Feb for 3 weeks. I'm very exited about getting away to the US for a bit and even more excited to be writing and working with friends of mine in the radical band As Tall As Lions from New York. They're currently recording their album in LA, it's going to be incredible so get, like, excited. I'll be staying with them and spending time getting creative and being inspired. I'm also hoping to spend the last week in New York. I should be straight back into the studio once I return to record the rest of the album.

Untill then, we start the main vocals and mixing on the first 4 tracks next week so I cant wait to have them done, and perhaps I can put sneaks of them on here! They're all sounding very different but rad... From a theatrical, acapella based song to a symphonic space rock anthem... to an 80's love-boat-reminiscent track then an obscure oriental sounding ballad. Yeyah.

It's going to be really exciting to see how it all fits together. Feels great to be exploring all the different possibilities which become available in the studio and creating interesting sounds in authentic ways. We've had a real focus on finding organic ways of recreating lo-fi sounds, mucking around with tiny old 60's amps set up in small rooms miced with vintage mics before running through the desk, been learning so much about ways in which you can recreate sounds without having to just press a button which feels a little less-satifying....

This year I'l be gigging more round Melbourne so make sure you come along to any shows! I have two lined up, one on the 5th of Feb at the Toff with The Rise and Demise (myspace.com/theriseanddemise) and the 6th with siB (myspace.com/sibmusic). These will probably be the only shows I do before I leave to the States so come along and spread the word! I'll have posters soon.

I just put some new album demos up for you to check out, these are tracks I've been working on at home but will probably appear on the album eventually. Check them out.

Also, go to www.myspace.com/youngdeadactors - I've been collaborating with my good friend Jono, making sexy club music, it's rad. Go check it out, we'll probably get real famous from it.. so...

On the outer music front, I can reccommend some tasty records for your ears...

    • The latest Facing New York record, called Get Hot. You can hear some of it on here (www.myspace.com/facingnewyork)
Department of Eagles - In Ear Park. (The other side to Grizzly Bear, with frontman Daniel Rossen)
Britney Spears - Circus. 3 terrible tracks, 4 okay, 6 brilliant. That's a worthwhile buy right?
    Mr. Oizo Lambs Anger
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion - I'm sure you've heard plenty of raving about this record. It lives up to every expectation.
The Bird And The Bee, ' ' - Totally amazing. Check out the self-titled record, and the EP 'Please Clap Your Hands'. Brilliant.

    Excellent.

    Much love x

Ps Yeah that's me on the new Nesian Mystik single for those who have been asking...

  • Hi!!

An update for you. The last 3 or so months has been filled with pre production of sorts, but I head into Sing Sing studios here in Melbourne on Dec 9th to record the first 4 songs for the record. They are sounding great and I'm feeling excited about having them finished. I have got together some rad people to play on the songs, there'll be live strings, brass etc, quite the party, yes.

I'm back in NZ for Christmas/NY's then back into another bunch of songs in January when I return. Onward...

I've been off the gigging front for a while but going to crank back into it next year. Anyway, I'll keep updating the page with various demos and hopefully even some stuff that'll appear on the album soon. Exciting.

    Thanks for the ongoing support!!!

  • Heyyy.

NEWS TIME. All is moving forward, started the proper demoing process for my album, sounding very exciting. Might start posting some previews of demo work I've been working on with my producer (responsible for records by Architecture in Helsinki, Gotye, Lior, Wolf Creek soundtrack etc) which are coming along nicely. Been off the gigging circuit for a little bit but there are plenty of vids up on YouTube and here on the space for you to check out... The live performance is a little different now to what it was in NZ, check it out.

Latest news which has got me on the brink of self combustion is that Nine Inch Nails and Minus The Bear are gracing Melbourne in Feb, YARRHH. Exciting stuff.

So, I'll keep up the updates, things are naturally taking time but the results are gonna be well worth it and I'll keep refreshing stuff on the page! Hoping to be back in NZ for a bit over the holiday season. Meanwhile, why not come sleep on my couch and hang?
